Series 01 · After the stalls close

Night Lanes

2023–2025 · 6 frames · Chengdu

Old streets and back lanes in Chengdu once the stalls have shut. Street lamps, shop signs and puddle reflections, the quietest part of the city after dark.

I usually head out after nine. The streets are too busy in the daytime. At night the shops are closed but the lights are still on, and people slow down.

Most of this series was shot on the walk home from work. I’d turn from one lane into the next and shoot whatever was there, no taxis, no hurry.
